To Zael, the world of death is as real as the world of living. Her mother died before she was born and her father abandoned her to lead a life as a beggar when she was only five. At the age of 12, Zael began feinting at unpredictable intervals. In the brief moments while she passes out, she lives another life on the other side. Born Sharon of Druswich, she was chased from her village at age 16; suspected of being possessed by a demon. Zael’s father, a suspected rogue wizard, always blamed her for her mother’s death. She claims her mother once located her on the other side to tell her she was killed by her husband as sacrifice in a demon ritual. Zael believes her destiny is to find and join the wizard Rowan the Wise. Zael is brave and eternally dedicated, but easily confused.
